Travel bug: Take me to Joshua Tree

January has flown by in a flash and the year seems to have been steam rolling from the get go… can we just take a moment to ease into it, please?! With life seemingly set to ‘fast’ I’m dreaming of a slower pace, at least for a week or two. Enter my ideal holiday escape – the stunningly beautiful, ultra rustic-chic and laidback ‘Joe’s Retreat’, in Joshua Tree, California.

Stripped bare wooden cladding, animal skills and rich leather, cactus plants and neutral linens. The house is a soothing mix of calming neutrals and raw nature, all in an isolated and peaceful setting. Set in the Joshua Tree National Park the surroundings are a feast for the eyes day and night. Stunning and quirky Joshua trees and desert flora litter the landscape, bathing in deliciously warming sunshine throughout the year. Under the cover of darkness the stars come out to play, covering the sky in a riot of twinkling… something we just don’t have the opportunity to see in the midst of city lights when at home.

If rest and relaxation is top priority for you then the bedroom décor alone is surely a selling point. The pale and interesting take on outback living is both masculine and delicate at once. Pared back and simple, this bed looks like just the place to get back to basics and catch some Zzz.

Offering the complete lifestyle Joe’s Retreat boasts views over the snow-capped San Jacinto mountain, outdoor firepit, open plan living, dining and kitchen area for laid-back socialising, and wonderfully sleep-inducing bedrooms with enough space for four. All this can be yours, at least temporarily, for just £164 a night via Airbnb.

If you don’t have plans to hideaway in the Californian wilderness just yet then why not recreate the look in your very own home. Here’s what I have my eyes on…
